What is IBM Planning Analytics?

IBM Planning Analytics is IBM’s planning, budgeting, and forecasting platform, built on TM1. Finance and operations teams use it to replace spreadsheet-only planning with a governed model, driver-based forecasts, and shared scenarios.

Algorisys is an IBM Gold Business Partner. We implement and support Planning Analytics for customers. We do not own, reskin, or replace the IBM product.

How does an Algorisys IBM Planning Analytics implementation work?

An Algorisys engagement starts from how you plan today — Excel, Cognos, or an older TM1 model. We agree drivers and owners, then design the Planning Analytics model and workspace planners will actually use.

Watson forecasting is added only where the data and process support it. It is not bolted on by default. We train planners, hand over model ownership, and stay on for support and enhancements.

Who is IBM Planning Analytics for?

  • FP&A teams consolidating budget and forecast cycles
  • Finance leaders replacing linked Excel workbooks
  • Operations and sales ops who need the same numbers as finance
  • Organizations already on IBM Cognos or TM1 that want a current Planning Analytics workspace

What does it work with?

  • IBM Cognos Analytics for reporting
  • ERP and GL actuals via IBM connectors or files
  • Existing TM1 models
  • Workforce and sales planning inputs from HR or CRM exports

What should you know before implementing?

Planning Analytics is not a faster spreadsheet. You need named process owners, a skills plan for TM1/PA, and agreement on what “the number” is. Data quality in the GL and driver sources matters more than the tool.

Watson-assisted forecasting only helps after the base model and actuals are trusted. Algorisys implements IBM software; licensing is IBM’s.

Questions people ask

What is IBM Planning Analytics?

IBM’s enterprise planning, budgeting, and forecasting platform, built on TM1. Algorisys implements it as an IBM Business Partner.

Does Algorisys make Planning Analytics?

No. IBM builds and licenses the product. Algorisys designs the model, implements, trains, and supports it.

How is Planning Analytics different from Excel?

Excel stays useful for analysis. Planning Analytics is the shared, governed model so versions, drivers, and write-back are not trapped in workbook links.

Do we need Watson to use Planning Analytics?

No. Watson forecasting is optional. Most first implementations establish the TM1/PA model and process, then add predictive features where the data supports them.

Can it work with IBM Cognos Analytics?

Yes. Cognos is often the reporting layer while Planning Analytics holds the planning model. We implement both when that is the architecture.
