What is IBM Cognos Analytics?
IBM Cognos Analytics is IBM’s business intelligence platform for self-service reporting, dashboards, and governed access to trusted data.
Algorisys implements and supports Cognos as an IBM Gold Business Partner. We do not own or rebrand the IBM product.
How does an Algorisys IBM Cognos Analytics implementation work?
We start from the reports and Excel packs people actually use, then agree which packages, modules, and dashboards should live in Cognos. Metadata, security, and a small set of certified reports come before a wide self-service rollout.
Authors are trained on the model you will keep — not a demo dataset. We stay on for enhancements as new subject areas are added.
Who is IBM Cognos Analytics for?
- Finance and operations teams that need one governed reporting layer
- BI authors replacing disconnected Excel packs
- Leaders who want self-service without losing data definitions
- Organizations pairing Cognos reporting with a Planning Analytics model
What does it work with?
- IBM Planning Analytics as the planning model
- Warehouses and lakehouses used as Cognos data sources
- Identity and role-based access already in the business
- Existing IBM data and AI services where they are already in use
What should you know before implementing?
Cognos is not a dump of every workbook. You need owners for the semantic layer, a first subject area, and agreement on who may publish. Self-service only works after certified content exists.
Algorisys implements IBM software; licensing is IBM’s.
Questions people ask
What is IBM Cognos Analytics?
IBM’s enterprise BI and reporting platform. Algorisys implements it as an IBM Business Partner.
Does Algorisys make Cognos?
No. IBM builds and licenses Cognos. Algorisys models the data, builds reports and dashboards, trains authors, and supports the environment.
How is Cognos different from Planning Analytics?
Cognos is typically the reporting and dashboard layer. Planning Analytics holds the planning, budgeting, and forecast model. Many customers run both.
Do we have to replace Tableau or Power BI?
Only if that is the programme you chose. We implement the IBM stack you licensed; we do not run a generic BI bake-off as part of this page.
Can Cognos report on Planning Analytics data?
Yes. That is a common architecture: PA for planning, Cognos for enterprise reporting.
